GAIAM FOLDABLE YOGA MAT
This lightweight yoga mat is great for travel. It folds up to easily fit in a purse or tote bag, but delivers the same performance one would expect from a regular studio mat. It comes in several beautiful colors and patterns, and is easy to clean.
The mat has seams pressed into it, which allows it to be folded up into a very compact square. Gaiam says, “it’s the ideal travel yoga mat for your weekend warrior”.
The synthetic rubber Gaiam Foldable Yoga Mat features a non-skid surface, so even though it’s got an ultra lightweight construction, your hands and feet will not slip on the mat when you are trying to hold poses like downward dog.
The mat is 2mm thick, thinner than most studio mats, but still provides great support. If more support is needed in poses like tabletop, the mat can easily be folded over.
The Gaiam Foldable Yoga Mat is made from recycled synthetics with a unique closed-cell construction system, so moisture won’t seep into your mat. This also provides a barrier against germs, bacteria, and unwanted odors.
The mat may be easily be cleaned with cold water and a gentle detergent. Wipe, and then lie it flat to dry, away from sunlight. If it is exposed to sunlight for long periods of time, it may fade or become brittle.
Gaiam recommends that you not put the mat into the washing machine or the dryer.

USER FEEDBACK, REVIEWS, AND COMMENTS
Amazon.com users give this foldable mat a 4.1 out of 5 stars, with over 400 reviews, and the mat earned 4.5 stars on the Gaiam website.
Users like the portability factor of this mat, and the fact that it unfolds quickly for use. It feels almost as thick as a regular yoga mat, and provides good cushioning.
Many users commented that it fit into their carry-on when travelling. One such user said, “It fit fine into my carry-on bag. Definitely recommend if you travel much… it’s great to get a quick work-out in. It was also a bit more affordable than the other (foldable mat) options.”
A user on Amazon.com states, “This is a good quality mat, just like I’d expect from Gaiam… and it doesn’t seem to bunch up or wrinkle during practice.”
Some users found that because the mat was so thin, it was a little bit hard on their wrists and joints – but they found practicing with the mat definitely preferable to working out on a hotel towel or carpet.
The Gaiam Foldable Mat is a specialty item, and a very good one. It’s meant to travel, and it travels with ease: easy to pack, a pleasure to use, quick to clean, and a cinch to fold away. Though at 2mm, it may not offer the support wrists and joints require over the long term, the yogi on the go will want to have it at the ready for quick jaunts away – whether that be in a hotel room, at the beach, or at the office.
